This book was a great tool for the beginning landscape architect. Many great tools for land planning including equations and tables and charts to determine various things like water runoff, erosion, sun exposure, and much more.

Where Physical Geography & Env. Planning share common ground

This may be one of the best introductions to environmental planning for geography students interested in the application of physical geographic techniques. When inquiring minds ask how a Geography major like myself ended up doing septic plan review as a county Environmental Health Specialist I simply point to Marsh's chapter on waste disposal and describe the necessary physical parameters familiar to physical geographers (soil types and percolation rates, groundwater levels, slopes and topography, surface water, geohazards, mapping, etc). There is something for everybody in this book and you don't have to be a geography major to benefit. A very practical text.

excellent book!

I'd recommend this book especially to any Earth/Environmental Science Majors. I actually just read this entire book cramming for an Environmental Planning exam (I was originally just going to skim some chapters). I wish I'd been reading it all along! There's a lot of cross-over with a Geology class I'm taking too.

Chapter 3 is one of the best explanations of the form/function(process) relationship in terms of the environment that I've ever read. I also found Chapter 9 very insightful concerning drainage basins. The diagrams and pictures are incredible. There is just enough technical scientific detail in the book to get a really good understanding of processes without overloading you with too many complicated equations.

I loved this story do much! It was a fantastic story with great characters and I totally fell in love with Gavin! This story has emotional ups and downs and they were so well written! I am looking forward to reading more books in this series and I highly recommend this series!

Absolutely love Sam Crescent, outstanding writing ,sexsational characters. Gave the book 5 stars. Heidi was looking for a fresh start, surviving a brutal existence and escaping abuse she is looking for a new begin. Moving to Creek Valley to reconnect with her friend Landon, she realizes he is in a committed relationship with Gavin. When they meet the jolt of energy is undeniable, the Dom is in charge and he will have two submissive's. Repairing the fragile state Heidi is in is one thing and bringing her as their third is the second. But adding a third to the mix has its consequences, can love prevail? Gavin wants them both can it work?

Not worth the cost

I just finished 2 other books that were the same length as this one (give or take a page) but packed a lot more into the story, and flowed better. I did enjoy Gavin's character. Landon and Heidi were a bit on the flaky side, especially when Landon makes a hare-brained decision right after Heidi's arrival. Overall it was okay, but if you buy it, wait until it goes on sale for $1.99 or less.

Very Good

This book does a very good job covering a largely misunderstood and caricatured branch of the Brit Army in WW1. Its expensive and covers 1915-18. Alot of small unit as well as big battle coverage. Time is spent on leaders, organization & tactics too. Few pictures. I'm glad I bought it. Its part of a 5(?) book series on the Brit Cav 1800-1918.

Subir Sachdev is Professor of Physics at Harvard University and holds a Distinguished Research Chair at the Perimeter Institute for Theoretical Physics. His research has focused on a variety of quantum materials and especially on their quantum phase transitions.

Good textbook, but you must be otherwise very familiar with QFT

I am working through this book now and just about to finish part II.

If I am not mistaken, this is currently the only book dealing exclusive with the subject of quantum phase transition.

A basic recurring theme is: at T=0 you have a critical point and two (quantum) phases on two sides. Add a little temperature, and you gets a few thermally-excited quasiparticles above the ground state on either side of the critical point. Except when you are immediately above the critical point, where the quasiparticle picture breaks down.

Sachdev systematically treats each model in the same way. First he would establish the behaviors of the two zero-T phases, and then discuss the finite-T region where the physics can be described by quasiparticles, and finally treat the quantum critical regime. Having a unifying structure makes grasping the concept easier.

That said, Sachdev does assume a very good foundation in QFT. It is commonplace in the book where he just defines an action, states that he is going to integrate out such-and-such, and then slaps the end result on you straightaway. You will have a really hard time making sense of what he wrote if you have just finished the standard one-year sequence of QFT.

(If you can do most of the problems in Peskin/Schoeder without refering to the book or your notes, you are good to go.)

Bottom line: be prepared for many omitted derivations and missing steps. Four stars, still. At least Sachdev provides a coherent direction, and I have seen books much more incomprehensible.

This book is very clear and informative. Gives a pedagogical introduction to the use of field theory in condensed matter in addition to exploring quantum phase transitions.
